Perhaps one of the most common procedures we do and also one of the most rewarding is breast reduction combined with a breast lift for a woman who has misshapen, sagging, large breasts and feels the overall discomfort related to the breasts. This can weigh on the shoulders, back, neck, and create significant discomfort. In addition, as you might imagine, it gets irritated beneath the breasts on the ribcage.
It can be very challenging to restore the breasts to something that looks like youthful breasts because not only is tissue removed, the remaining tissue needs to be repositioned—placed at a much higher level, and supported in some way.
Oftentimes for a procedure like this, I’ll use absorbable mesh. Mesh can add support for the heavy breasts. You might ask, “How does it help if it goes away?” The answer is your body will create collagen that grows through the weaves of the mesh and provide longer-lasting support of the breasts as the mesh dissolves over one to two years.
So this can be a very powerful procedure. It has an extremely high satisfaction rate in plastic surgery. And I really enjoy doing it for the many benefits my patients experience: increasing their confidence and ability to engage in a more active lifestyle,
