Immediately following your procedure, you will experience bruising, swelling, redness, and mild discomfort. Any associated pain is treated with Exparel, an anesthetic Dr. Patronella injects directly into the abdominal wall during surgery to provide postsurgical pain relief for 72 hours or more. He also will prescribe oral medication should you desire additional pain relief. You will wear a compression garment to facilitate healing and ensure the best results possible. You should avoid strenuous physical activities including pushing, pulling, and heavy lifting. With your surgeon’s permission, you should be able to slowly resume your normal activities after three to four weeks. Your results should be noticeable after six weeks and will only improve as the rest of the swelling subsides.
