An abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck," is the most widely used procedure for those individuals who wish to flatten their stomach. Abdominoplasty is used to remove extra skin from the mid and lower abdomen. The procedure also tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall. A permanent scar will result from the procedure, but it can appear below the bikini line.
Dr. Patronella may also recommend liposuction in addition to abdominoplasty, which is used to remove excess fat deposits from the body. Patients who intend to loose a significant amount of weight or are planning to become pregnant should discuss their plans with Dr. Patronella.
Abdominoplasty can be performed as an outpatient procedure in two to five hours, or Dr. Patronella may recommend an overnight stay for some patients. Recovery generally takes 2 weeks before driving or returning to work and resuming job responsibilities. Approximately 6 weeks is necessary before full recovery and resuming aerobic exercise programs.
