Plastic Surgeon Dr. Chris Patronella

One reason why I don’t favor mini tummy tuck surgery in most of the women I see who desire improvement of the abdomen after childbirth is this the lower abdomen can be flattened, but it would disproportionally affect the unpaired upper abdomen by leaving a bulge in the upper abdomen, which is unsightly. So more times than not, a mini tummytuck is a procedure that I don’t do for that reason.

In almost every circumstance, there is some separation of the muscle wall, known as diastasis, both above and below the belly button in women who’ve experienced pregnancy. A mini tummy tuck would, of course, flatten the bulge below the belly button, but not that above the belly button. And that would  become even more noticeable to a woman.

This is a common reason many patients consult with me for revision tummy tuck surgery. They have a tight, flat lower abdomen that noticeably contrasts with a fuller upper abdomen. It’s a lack of harmony that looks surgical, not natural. In these cases I often will perform my True Form Tummy Tuck® procedure to repaire the diastasis in the upper and lower abdomen to restore a more seamless, harmonious appearance to the abdomen. It’s a rewarding experience to repair this because it can create a very dramatic change,
