What is a Vampire Facial?
It’s mysterious-sounding name has attracted much media buzz, but the Vampire Facial’s effectiveness at giving the skin a smoother, more flawless appearance is proving the treatment is more than just a catchy term. Along with the bevy of cosmetic injectable services she performs, Heidi Fell, RN, aesthetic nurse specialist for Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Christopher Patronella, offers the Vampire Facial as a nonsurgical treatment in-office treatment, which takes about one hour to complete. The treatment restores the skin’s glow and improves it’s tone, texture, and firmness by diminishing concerns including:
- Fine lines
- Uneven skin tone
- Large pores
- Sun Damage
- Lax and/or thin skin
The Vampire Facial actually combines two treatments –a platelet rich plasma (PRP) facial with SkinPen ll microneedling to give patients the skin-beautifying benefits of both. PRP’s growth factors, which are a naturally occurring substance in the body, help to stimulate new cells and the production of collagen. This valuable protein in the body is responsible for helping the skin to look youthful, smooth and plump, but unfortunately, it’s production breaks down as we age, leading to wrinkles, sagging, and thinner skin.
The SkinPen II also stimulates the skin’s production of collagen and elastin (helps the skin to retain it’s elasticity) through a small microneedle that is gently glided across the face to create microscopic channels, which allow the PRP to penetrate more deeply into the skin.
The Vampire Facial Procedure
During the treatment, about one vial of the patient’s blood is drawn and then placed in a centrifuge device to separate the platelets from the other components of the blood. After painting a thin layer of PRP on the face, Heidi Fell gently glides the SkinPen over the skin to intensify the PRP’s collagen-producing benefits of the PRP.
