Houston Plastic Surgeon Dr. Christopher Patronella is a respected expert in utilizing liposuction to remove fat and reshape ideal body contours.
Liposuction is one of the most requested cosmetic surgery procedures because of its effectiveness at reshaping the body through the removal of excess fat. It can be used to restore better proportions to almost any area of the body, including the waist, abdomen, hips, thighs and arms, and smaller areas such as the neck, chin, knees, and ankles. Though a variety of liposuction methods are now widely available, it is primarily the skill and experience of the surgeon that determines optimal results for any technology that is used. For most cases, Dr. Patronella utilizes the tumescent method of liposuction, the technique preferred by most plastic surgeons.
The Liposuction Procedure
In this procedure, a mixture of anesthetic and epinephrine in carefully infused into the targeted treatment areas. This fluid not only markedly reduces pain and bleeding, but it facilitates the removal of fat in a uniform manner. The expanded fat cells are then removed by careful suctioning with small hollow cannulas. Incisions are small and discreet so that scarring is minimized. Liposuction can be performed to remove small to moderate amounts of fat, or as much as 22 pounds of fat in large volume liposuction procedures. Most patients are able to return home the day of surgery, though individuals who have large-volume liposuction will be required to stay overnight in one of our private surgery center suites under the care of our highly trained nursing staff.
Liposuction Recovery
For approximately six weeks after surgery, the patient wears a compression garment to reduce swelling and to promote proper healing. Some bruising and swelling is common after liposuction, but once they have subsided, your new contour will be apparent. With the continued practice of a healthy diet and fitness routine, results are typically long lasting.
