We've all seen images of facelifts gone wrong, faces that appear excessively pulled and taut, but Dr. Patronella does things differently at his Houston, Texas practice. He utlilizes a two-layer (dual plane) technique to address the signs of facial aging at an in-depth level and provide longer-lasting results. A combination of lifting techniques, tightening of the underlying muscle and tissues, and the removal of excess loose skin allows him to correct the appearance of mid-face sagging, deep creases, and a loss of muscle tone that cause the face to appear aged and fatigued.
The Facelift Procedure
Incisions are discreetly placed in natural creases behind and in front of the ear so that scars are inconspicuous.The skin and the deeper underlying tissues of the face are then repositioned and tightened, while loose sagging skin is trimmed away. After redraping the skin to give it a smoother and more uplifted appearance, sutures or skin adhesives are used to close the incisions. The facelift procedure is typically completed in 3-5 hours under general anesthesia.
Facelift Recovery
In the initial postoperative period, sleeping with your head elevated will help to reduce swelling. Most bruising usually diminishes by three weeks. If desired, concealing makeup may be worn in approximately one week to soften the appearance of any discoloration. A majority of the stitches are removed a week after surgery. Most patients are able to return to work in 2-4 weeks, and exercise can be resumed in 4-5 weeks.
Comprehensive Facial Rejuvenation
Many patients choose to combine a face lift with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to restore a refreshed appearance to the eyes, and a browlift (forehead lift) to correct a worn and aged appearance in the brow area. A necklift reverses sagging and creasing to return a smooth, firm look to the neck.
In addition, Dr. Patronella may recommend non-surgical rejuvenation methods such as cosmetic injectables, lasers, or chemical peels to address fine lines around the eyes and mouth.
