Removing fat from the body involves tiny incisions made near the site that will be suctioned. A small hollow tube referred to as a cannula is used to suction the fat from the selected areas so Dr. Patronella may sculpt the desired shape. Some swelling and bruising may occur, but usually only lasts for 3 to 5 weeks.
Liposuction is generally performed under general anesthesia and lasts anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, depending on the targeted area and the amount of fat to be removed. Patients can return to work within 5 to 7 days. Normal athletic activities can be resumed 3 weeks after liposuction.
